Martina the Beautiful Cockroach

Deedy, C. A., & Austin, M. (2007). Martina, the beautiful cockroach: A Cuban folktale. Atlanta, GA: Peachtree. Martina was ready for marriage, but her grandmother knew that marriage was not something to joke with. She gave her an old trick that could help her find the perfect husband. The trick worked, for it shooed away the terrible candidates. She finally met a gentle mouse that made her heart melt. Teachers can easily use it to teach onomatopoeia and use examples from the book such as Gronc! Gronc! and ti-ki-tin, ti-ki-tan. This book's style filled with folklore beautifully celebrates Cuban and Hispanic culture.
